10 best WordPress Admin Plugins
There are many plugins for the WordPress backend available. But not all of them are good or necessary - here are the 10 best! Please note: Most of them are for WordPress 2.5+
WordPress Admin Bar
This very useful plugin replicates all of the menu links in your normal admin area at the top of your main site for logged in users. You can go right to the “Write Post” or manage options pages in one click from anywhere on your blog.
Global Plugin Update Notice
You will receive a notice on all admin pages when a new version of an activated plugin is available for download. Especially for a blog with many plugins interesting.
Dash-Note Plugin
With this plugin you’ll be able to leave notes on a Post-it like paper in the admin view. You’ll never forget what you wanted to write about…
Them test drive
We all know this problem - you want to change the theme but how will it look like on your blog? Theme Test Drive WordPress plugin allows you to safely test drive any theme on your blog as administrator, while visitors still use the default one.
Maintenance Mode Plugin
You perform a backup or other maintenance work on your blog? Use this plugin to inform visitor. Maintenance Mode Plugin adds a splash page to your blog that lets visitors know your blog is down for maintenance.

Lighter Menus
This is one of the first plugins I load after setting a a new WordPress blog. Lighter Menus creates drop-down menus instead of the regular admin menus of the WordPress interface, so that you can browse items with one click and work at your blog in a much more usable environment.

Allows you to write a article in the frontend. Quite useful.

Scans your WordPress installation for security vulnerabilities and suggests corrective actions. (Passwords, file permissions, database security…)
